BRYANT MEN'S BASKETBALL UPSETS #12 HOLY FAMILY
111-71
Bryant Comfort Suites
Holiday Tournament – Day 2
SMITHFIELD, R.I. --- John Williams and Jon Ezeokoli
combined for 39 points and each drained four three-pointers to lead
the Bryant University men's basketball team to a 111-71 rout
of 12th-ranked Holy Family Thursday at the Comfort
Suites Holiday Classic at the Chace Athletic Center.
The 111 points scored are the most under
fifth-year coach Max Good at Bryant and the fifth most in school
history. A total of 11 players scored at least a point in the
game with six reaching double figures.
Holy Family raced out quickly, scoring the
game's first six points, but the Bulldogs would quickly
answer, going on a 17-5 run over the next seven minutes to take a
17-11 lead. Three long three-pointers from Ezeokoli and a
pair of treys from John Williams helped key the spurt.
The Tigers, who came into the tournament winners
of eight in-a-row before falling to Saint Anselm yesterday, pulled
to within 25-16 with just over ten minutes left in the half, but
the Bulldogs, behind more strong shooting from the outside, would
go on another offensive tear and close out the half with a 15-2 run
to take a 58-32 lead at the half.
The second half was no different as the
Bulldogs connected on four more three-point field goals and
finished with 12 in the game. Bryant's bench out-scored Holy
Family's 48 to 26 with Nathaniel Sudlow and freshman Jarrenn
Wright coming off the bench to score 14 and 13 points
respectively.
Williams, who drained four
three's in Wednesday's win over Bloomfield, was 4 for 9
from beyond the arc against Holy Family and finished going 8 for 15
from the floor. The senior, who led all scorers with 21
points, also had three assists and pair steals while playing 31
minutes without a turnover.
Freshman Nick Pontes had 10 points
and nine rebounds. Ezeokoli would finish with 18 points on 7
of 12 shooting.
Holy Family (8-3), was led by Dan Welch
and Ryan Lancaster's 14 points while Edward Greene-Lon added
13 points and nine rebounds. The Tigers shot a respectable
42.3 percent from the floor, but turned the ball over 23 times in
the game.
Bryant will host Assumption Monday at 7:30
p.m.
