SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Joanna Skiba's
put-back with just over two minutes left gave Bryant a 61-60 lead
and the Bulldogs would hold on for a 65-61 come-from-behind win
over Southern New Hampshire Thursday afternoon at the Comfort
Suites Holiday Tournament hosted by Bryant. Skiba
finished with 14 points and five assists as the Bulldogs evened
their record to 5-5 on the year.
Trailing by as much as 10 in the second half,
Bryant closed out the game on a 12-1 run as Skiba would later score
on a fast break layup after an Erin Murphy steal at midcourt with
1:53 left to put the Bulldogs up 63-60.
Southern New Hampshire would pull to within
63-60 after a free throw by Danielle Graunke with just over a
minute to go.
After a Bryant turnover on the Bulldogs'
next possession, Southern New Hampshire's Stephanie Houghton
was long on a three-point attempt and Shannon Perry was there to
grab the rebound for the Bulldogs and was immediately fouled.
Perry, playing in just her second game for Bryant, hit both free
throws to seal the victory. She finished with a game-high 19
points and 11 rebounds – her second-straight game with a
double-double.
Southern New Hampshire (1-9) led 38-32 at the
half after shooting 54.8 percent from the floor, but cooled off in
the second half, making just 9 of 25 from the field and finished
the game shooting 39.4 percent. Chrisondria Griffith paced
the Penmen with 14 points and six rebounds while Alex Giannopoulou
and Houghton each finished with 11 points. SNHU attempted
just six free throws, making four.
Bryant (5-5) finished the game
shooting 31.7 percent from the floor and made 23 of 32 free throw
attempts. Alyssa Michella had nine points coming on three
3-pointers while Murphy contributed eight points and four rebounds
plus three steals.
