BRYANT MEN ROLL TO 73-49 WIN OVER MERRIMACK
Northeast-10 Men's Basketball
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – John Williams scored 19 points and Mario Correia added 17 as the Bryant men's basketball team rebounded from Saturday's loss at No. 5 Bentley with a decisive 73-49 win at Merrimack College before 372 at the Volpe Center Monday.
The Bulldogs set the tone early with an aggressive man-to-man defense and took control right from the start. Leading 8-2 in the first minutes, the Bulldogs would use a 14-3 run to build an 18-5 lead with 12 minutes left in the half. Back-to-back three's by Williams and Cullen McCarthy (left) helped key the spurt.
Merrimack (13-14, 9-13 NE-10) was held to just six field goals in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 36-15 lead into the locker room at the half.
In the second, it was more of the same, as seven-straight points by Correia pushed the lead to 45-17 with 16:35 left as Bryant's defense took the Warriors out of their offense throughout the evening as Merrimack turned the ball over 24 times in the game.
Pierre Downing and Bobby Murgo, Merrimack's leading scorers, were held to a combined 12 points.
Bryant (19-7, 15-7 NE-10) shot 42.6 percent from the floor in the game and made 20 of 22 from the free throw line including 10-straight in the final five minutes to seal the win.
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season and enter this weekend's Northeast-10 Conference tournament as the sixth-seed and will host a first round game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Chace Athletic Center.
