Bulldogs Take Pair from Saint Anselm

MANCHESTER, NH - The Bryant University softball team beat Saint Anselm in both games of a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader played today in Manchester by scores of 5-1 and 7-1.
Saint Anselm drops to 9-14 on the season with the loss and 6-8 in the NE-10 while the Bulldogs improve to 16-10 overall and 13-1 in the conference.
In the first game, the Hawks scored the first run of the contest when Maria Lisa Marciano (North Reading, Mass./ N. Reading) stole home in the bottom of the second inning. However, Bryant would take the lead with three runs in the fifth inning and went on to add a run in both the sixth and seventh frames for the 5-1 win.
Jennifer Bernier (Rehoboth, Mass.) pitched the complete game for Bryant and did not allow an earned run while giving up four hits, walking two and striking out one. Brigitte June (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./ Saratoga Springs) gave up four earned runs on ten hits with one walk and four strikeouts to pick up the loss.
In the second game, the Bulldogs jumped out to a big lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. The Hawks came back with one run in the bottom half when Katy Cotter (Hudson, N.H./ Alvirne) drove in Katelyn McGrath (Hudson, N.H./ Alvirne) to make the score 4-1. Bryant went on to shut Saint Anselm down after that and tack on three more runs for a 7-1 victory.
Diane Cummings (Westwood, Mass.) pitched seven innings with five hits allowed, five walks and four strikeouts. Emily Chaput (Amesbury, Mass./ Amesbury) received the loss after giving up five earned runs off 11 hits in seven innings with three strikeouts.
Lindsay Connor (West Haven, Conn.) had a big day at the plate for Bryant, hitting 5-for-8 in the two games with three runs scored and one RBI. Jordan Dragon (Trumball, Conn.) was 4-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI. Julie Pistorino (Abington, Mass./ Cardinal Spellman) led the Hawks with two hits in six at bats on the day.
