PLEASANTVILLE, NY - The Bryant University softball team split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with Pace losing game one 2-0 and winning game two 10-1.
In the first game, Angela Locsin held the Bulldogs scoreless while scattering six hits. Locsin walked one and struck out four Bulldog batters over seven innings.
The Setters scored the games' only runs in the bottom of the second, when Sheila Mercado singled to left field with one out, and then advanced to second base on an error by Bryant left fielder, Briana Durborow (Ringoes, NJ). After Kelly Kinyon walked, Jackie Burd (Levittown, NY) grounded out to the pitcher, moving Mercado and Kinyon into scoring position. Freshman Alton Frisbie then singled to center field, scoring Mercado and Kinyon.
In Game 2, Bryant earned a split, defeating the Setters 10-1, as the mercy rule was enforced after six innings. The Bulldogs capitalized on three Pace errors to push across four unearned runs. Setter starter Julia Hunt allowed 15 hits and 10 runs (six earned), while striking out three over six innings. For Bryant, Nikki Ignalls surrendered five hits and one run, while striking out three in the complete game victory.
For Pace, Kinyon went 2-for-2 with a run scoring double in the third. Tess Bair went 1-for-3 and scored in the lone Setter run in the game. For the Bulldogs, Holly McCarthy went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Jordan Dargon, Diane Cummings, Briana Durborow and Carly Muise each tallied two hits each, with Dargon scoring three times.
