Dargon’s Grand Slam in 12th Leads Bryant to Victory

SMITHFIELD, RI – Jordan Dargon's (Trumbull, Conn.) grand slam homerun in the top of the 12th lead Bryant to a 12-10 victory over Northeast-10 Conference foe Assumption today in a game played at the Bryant Softball complex.

Dargon, who went 2-for-5 in the game with five RBIs, broke the game out of an earlier 8-8 tie.

Dargon was not the only Bulldog to homer as Amanda Gagne (Wilbraham, Mass.) got one early in the first inning to give Bryant (10-7, 7-0 NE-10) a 1-0 lead. Assumption would answer with one of their own in the bottom of the second of the bat of Sarah Taglienti to make it 1-1.

The team would each score two runs before heading into extra innings. The teams would then play all the way to the 11th locked in a 3-3 tie.

In the 11th Bryant would score five runs as Lindsay Connor (West Haven, Conn.), Diane Cummings (Westwood, Mass.) and Gagne would all collect hits to help the Bulldogs score five.

The Greyhounds would answer with five of their own in the bottom the inning including a three-run double from Sandra Denman.

Bryant would then get the Dargon homerun but Assumption would not go away in the bottom of the inning as they would score two and load the bases before Stephanie Miller (Titusville, NJ) got the last out for the win.

Janine Enos (Wareham, Mass.) got the no decision going 10 2/3 innings allowing eight runs and striking out 13.

Game two was not played due to concerns of darkness and will be made up at a later date.

Bryant will return to action tomorrow when they travel to Southern Connecticut.
