SAINT ROSE MEN HAND BRYANT 77-52 DEFEAT SATURDAY
SMITHFIELD, RI – Brad Shove scored a game-high 22 points
as visiting Saint Rose cruised right from the start en route to a
77-52 Northeast-10 Conference win over Bryant University Saturday
afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.
Saint Rose (15-4, 11-3 Northeast-10), winners of four-straight
and ranked No. 25 in this week's national poll, raced out to
an early 7-0 lead on the Bulldogs and never trailed in the
contest. Using and effective half-court trap, the Golden
Knights forced Bryant to struggle offensively from the floor and
led 13-5 in the first seven minutes.
After Bryant's Nick Pontes (New Bedford, Mass.) hit a
basket in the lane to trim the Saint Rose lead down to 18-15 with
9:59 left, the Bulldogs would make just one field goal - a three by
Jon Ezeokoli (South Orange, NJ) – for the remainder of the
half.
Bryant shot a dismal 19 percent from the floor in the first half
and headed into the locker room trailing 41-20 at the break.
In the second half, Saint Rose closed the door on any chance of
a Bryant comeback as Shove drained a three-pointer in transition to
give the Golden Knights their largest lead at 48-28 five minutes in
and never looked back.
Saint Rose would get 16 points and five blocks from Clayton
Longmire while Terrance King added 14 points and nine rebounds as
the Golden Knights finished the game shooting 42.6 percent from the
floor.
Bryant (11-6, 6-6 NE-10) was led by freshman Jarrenn
Wright's (Cincinnati, OH) team-high 13 points as leading
scorer John Williams (Springfield, MA) was held to a season-low
three points in the game. The Bulldogs finished the game shooting
29.9 percent from the floor.
Bryant will travel to Pace on Tuesday night and host Southern
Connecticut on Thursday.
