BRYANT MEN'S BASKETBALL DEFEATS SAINT ANSELM 84-80
Burns Scores 20 To Pace Bulldogs

SMITHFIELD, RI - Chris Burns (Merrimack, NH) scored a team-high 20 points and Nate Sudlow (Brooklyn, NY) scored 15 points and dished out a career-best 10 assists as the Bulldogs held off Saint Anselm College down the stretch to win 84-80.   Bryant improves to 2-1 with the win and 1-0 in the NE-10.  Saint Anselm, led by Chris Vetrano's (Andover, MA) game-high 21 points, drops to 2-2 (1-1 NE-10).

The Bulldogs raced out quickly on the visiting Hawks, leading 23-13 following back to back jumpers in the lane by Nick Pontes (New Bedford, Mass.).  The lead would stretch to 34-17 following a Sudlow three with seven minute remaining.

But that's when the Hawks awoke offensively, putting together a 16-3 run to end the first half and head into the locker room trailing by just four, 37-34.

In the second half, a Burns three pushed the Bryant lead to 45-36, but the Hawks continued to chip away.  A Junior Mitchell (Brooklyn, NY) three from the left side cut the Bryant lead to 47-43 with a little over 15 minutes left.

Another three by Mitchell with 6:12 left pulled the visitors to within 69-66.  Moments later, the Hawks would tie the game at 71-71 following two Chris Vetrano layups.

But a drive by Sudlow followed by a Dan Hammond (Brunswick, Maine) basket following a steal by Sudlow, Jerrann Wright (Cincinnati, OH) gave the Bulldogs some breathing room with a nice 10-foot pull up jumper to give Bryant a 77-71 lead and the Bulldogs were never threatened.

Sudlow was all over the court as the senior guard finished the night 5 of 9 shooting from the floor, while adding 5 rebounds, 2 blocked shots and 3 steals in 33 minutes. Burns had the hot hand from the outside, making 5 of 8 from three-point range while Pontes and Wright each finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Kyle Powers had 20 points for Saint Anselm.  The Hawks out-rebounded Bryant 41-35 in the game.  After turning the ball over 12 times in the first half, Bryant had just four turnovers in the second half.
Bryant (3-0, 1-0 NE-10) will travel to Franklin Pierce on Sunday at 3:30 p.m.
