BRYANT WOMEN DEFEAT SAINT MICHAEL'S 64-50 BEHIND
PERRY'S 26
SMITHFIELD, RI -- Shannon Perry scored 26 points and
grabbed 13 rebounds to help lead the Bryant women's
basketball team to a 64-50 win over Saint Michael's College
here Wednesday night at the Chace Athletic Center. The win
improves Bryant's record to 8-17 overall and 5-15 in the
Northeast-10.
Leading 37-17 at the half, Saint Michael's (17-8, 12-8
NE-10) used a 14-3 run to pull to within 42-38 with just over 10
minutes left. The Bulldogs would counter with a 10-03 run of
their own over the next four minutes. Perry scored two
baskets inside and following a runner in the lane by Joanna Skiba
(11 points), Lauren Rubenoff capped off the run by draining a
12-footer to make it 50-38 with 6:30 left.
The Purple Knights, led by Jevy Rayner's 9 points, would
pull back to within 52-40 after Amy Pitchers hit a pullup in the
lane, but Perry would score following her own miss and was fouled
in the process. She would convert the free throw and put the game
away.
The Bulldogs scored the game's first 12 points in racing
out to a 16-4 lead with Rubenoff keying the run with six points
inside. Saint Michael's would pull back to within 18-10
on a layup by Jevy Rayner, but Bryant would stretch the lead back
to double digits following a jumper and a three by Alyssa Michella
minutes later.
Rubenoff finished the game with 8 points and tied her
career-high with 13 rebounds. Bryant shot 41.1 percent from
the floor in the game and made 14 of 16 free throws with Perry
going 12 for 13 from the line. Michella added 11 for the
Bulldogs.
