Williams and Pontes Finish Strong for Bulldogs

Manchester, NH - Senior John Williams (Springfield,
MA) made a fade away jumper with 21 seconds remaining to
put the Bulldogs on top 60-59. Bryant held on defense and sealed
the deal with two Nick Pontes (New Bedford, MA)
free throws. Bryant improves to 15-7 overall and 10-7 in the
Northeast-10. Southern New Hampshire falls to 15-8 overall and 11-7
in NE-10 play.
John Williams was his usual self in the first half scoring 11
points with four rebounds, five assists and no turnovers. Williams
and the Bulldogs went into the locker room at half time up 38-26 in
a dominating first 20 minutes. The team shot 55% from the floor and
44% from three point land. John finished with 16 points and seven
assists.
The second half would be a different story as Southern New
Hampshire would come out on fire and Bryant cold. The Penmen
started on a 14-2 run spanning the first seven minutes to tie the
game, holding the Bulldogs without a field goal in that period.
Both teams would battle back and forth with six lead changes. After
Williams hit the fall away jumper to give Bryant the lead, they
held the Penmen to one shot on defense grabbing the defensive
rebound. Nick Pontes knocked down two free throws with four seconds
left to ice the game and take home the win. Pontes finished with 12
points and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Chris
Burns (Merrimakc, NH) also finished in double figures with
11 points.
Senior PJ Young (Boston, MA) scored 10 points
in the scond half and 17 for the game including eight straight
during the big run for Southern new Hampshire. He also hauled in 13
rebounds. Sam Carey (Manchester, NH) had a strong
game with 17 points and nine rebounds. Miguel Gonzalez
(Jamiaca, NY) had a game high 18 points in the loss.
The Bulldogs will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they
will host Le Moyne.
