Bryant Softball Sweeps Franklin Pierce,
12-1 and 3-0
RINDGE, N.H.
- The Bryant University softball team (10-12, 9-3
NE-10) swept a doubleheader at Franklin Pierce College this
afternoon winning Game One, 12-1, in five innings, and winning Game
Two by the score of 3-0. Junior Nikki Ingalls
(Westford,
Mass.) pitched a no-hitter to
fanning six to lead Bryant in the Game Two victory.
In Game One, Bryant scored nine runs in the top of the first
inning as each of the first seven batters scored. Using six hits
including three doubles in the first frame, the Bulldogs batted
around. Bryant would add three additional runs in the top of the
third inning, as the first three batters of the frame each hit
safely and later scored. Junior Amanda Gagne
(Wilbraham,
Mass.) led the attack as she went
3-for-4 in the contest and scored three runs.
On the mound sophomore Jennifer Bernier
(Rehoboth,
Mass.) allowed just three hits
over the minimum five innings to get the win, her third of the
year.
Game Two saw Bryant get on the board first again as senior
catcher Jordan Dargon
(Trumbull,
Conn.) launched an RBI sacrifice
fly plating junior Lindsay Connor (West
Haven,
Conn.).
The Bulldogs would tack on a run in the top of the fifth as
freshman Kate Thomas
(Bedford,
N.H.) led off the inning with a
solo home run to give Bryant a 2-0 lead. Dargon would add an
insurance run in the top of the seventh as she double and later
scored to account for the third Bryant run.
On the mound, Ingalls was unstoppable as she picked up the win
for the Bulldogs, her fourth of the year. The Bay State-native
fanned six and got 12 ground outs in the no-no.
Bryant returns to action on Thursday when they will host
Southern Connecticut at 3:00 pm.
