BULLDOGS DROP 6-1 TO UMASS
LOWELL

RI - The Bryant University baseball team welcomed
Northeast-10 opponent UMass Lowell to the Bryant Baseball Complex
on Thursday afternoon. UMass Lowell won the game 6-1 behind eight
strong innings of three-hit ball from senior Dan
Shaughnessy (Lowell,
MA). The River Hawks improve to 31-8 overall and
18-6 in the conference while the Bulldogs drop to 14-29 overall and
12-11 in the NE-10.
UMass Lowell started hot out of the gate scoring three times in
the top of the first on four hits. Sophomore Tim Manton
(Swansea,
MA) knocked in the River Hawks'
first run with an RBI double. Manton also scored two runs in the
game. Senior Tim Dempsey
(Lexington,
MA) also contributed an RBI
single in the first knocking in Manton. Dempsey finished 2-5 with
an RBI and a run scored.
The Bulldogs would get one run back in the bottom of the second
on an error by the right fielder who dropped the ball allowing
sophomore Mark Dondero
(Medfield,
MA) to score who reached on a
single.
The River Hawks would extend their lead in the top of the third
scoring two unearned runs. Junior Patrick Wilson
(Dracut,
MA) drove home the first run on
an RBI double. He finished with two hits. Freshman Tim
Keene (Berlin,
NH) brought in Lowell's fifth run
on a sacrifice fly to center. They would add another run in the top
of the ninth on an RBI double by freshman Brendan Fullerton
(Beverly, MA) to take the 6-1 victory. Fullerton led the
team with three hits with one RBI.
Shaughnessy tossed eight innings for UMass Lowell allowing just
three hits and one unearned run. He picked up his fifth win of the
season and is now 5-0.
Freshmen Evan Ray
(Holden,
MA) and Ben Conn
(Holden,
MA) combined for four shutout
innings of relief for Bryant.
The Bulldogs will play on Saturday, April 29 when they will
travel to American International with a start time of 12:00 pm.
