Kutztown Defeats Bryant 5-2 To Advance Round of
16
SMITHFIELD, RI - Thanks to strong play at No. 1 and No. 2
doubles to open the match, Kutztown University rode the momentum to
earn a 5-2 win over host Bryant University in second round action
of the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis tournament Saturday at the
Bryant Tennis Complex. With the win, Kutztown (12-3) will
advance to the Round of 16 starting May 10 in Kansas City,
Missouri.
In a rematch of last year's regional final won by Kutztown 5-1,
the Bears started strong as Kerstin Kloeffer and Priya Pachkawade
defeated Bryant's top doubles tandem of Sacha Solomon and Annette
Jervasi 8-3. Jharna Nansi and Magaly Peter followed
with an 8-1 win at No. 2 while the Bulldogs managed to get a point
at No. 3 as sophomores Michelle Burke and Lauren Mullen defeated
Kristen Bodalski and Lauren Losoncy 8-3.
In singles, Bryant's Burke was the lone winner for the Bulldogs
at No. 6 as Kloeffer earned a straight-set win over Solomon at No.
1, 6-1, 6-3, but the Bears wrapped up their second regional title
as Peter and Nansi earned wins at No. 2 and No. 4 to give Kutztown
the win. Bryant ends its season 17-4.
