Halftime - 2-0 Franklin Pierce
SMITHFIELD, RI - Henning Come (Gothenburg, Sweden), David
Clifton (London, England), and Peter Petropanagos (Mississauga,
Ontario) each had goal to lead fifth-ranked Franklin Pierce
University to a 3-0 Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer victory
over host Bryant University Saturday afternoon. The win for
the Ravens is the school's first in Smithfield, RI under coach
Marco Koolman and the first since 1999. Bryant drops to 6-3
overall and 3-3 in the NE-10.
Franklin Pierce (6-1-1, 5-0 NE-10) controlled much of the play
throughout the early going, Marek Hawrylik's lunging header
(Olszteyn, Poland) hit the right post, nearly giving the visitors
the lead in the 25th minute. But minutes later,
the Ravens would break through as Clifton was able to send in Come
along after slipping a pass from 40 yards out to the foot of Come
who was able to tuck the ball past Bryant goalie Thomas Madden
(Saco, Maine) into the corner of the goal.
Clifton would make it 2-0 Franklin Pierce with a goal just
minutes before halftime sending the visitors into the locker room
at the half with a 2-0 lead. Franklin Pierce out-shot
Bryant 9 to 6 in the match while all-America goalie James Thorpe
(East Longmeadow, Mass.) earned the shutout victory with four
saves.
The Bulldogs host Saint Anselm Tuesday night at 7 pm.
