WALTHAM, Mass. - The Bryant women's volleyball split a
pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Bentley College
Invitational. The Bulldogs picked up a 3-1 win over Georgian
Court in the opener but fell to New Haven, 3-0 in the final match
of the day.
Against Georgian Court, the Bulldogs endured a marathon first
game, winning 38-36, but Georgian Court would rally to win the
second 30-23. From there, it was all Bryant, winning 30-28
and 35-33 in the decisive fourth set.
Likica Grceva (Natick, Mass.) paced the Bryant attack with 20
kills while freshman Adrienne Boss (Dracut, Mass.) chipped in with
11 kills and had six blocks. The Bulldogs won despite hitting
.095 as a team, but a 26-dig effort defensively by Maureen Atkins
(Fenton, MO) were key in the victory. Senior Tiffany Garry
(Frankfort, IL) had 38 assists plus added 15 digs of her own in the
match.
Against New Haven, Bryant (2-7) managed a season-high 13 service
aces in the match including seven from junior standout Delia Glover
(Marston Mills, Mass.), but it was not enough to overcome the
Chargers as New Haven would win 30-28, 34-32, 30-28. Grceva
finished with 11 kills and added 13 digs. For her efforts,
Grceva was named to the All-Tournament team.
The Bulldogs will host Saint Anselm this Tuesday evening at the
Chace Athletic Center in the home opener.
