WOMEN'S TENNIS SPLITS PAIR IN HILTON HEAD
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC - The Bryant women's tennis team split a
pair of matches in Hilton Head, defeating Charleston West Virginia
in a rain-suspended match from Tuesday, and dropping a 7-2 decision
to Northern Kentucky Thursday. The Bulldogs will wrap up the
spring trip Friday with a match against regional powerhouse
Bloomsburg.
Against Charleston, the Bulldogs won four of six singles matches
to earn the win. Michelle Burke pulled out a hard-fought 6-4,
4-6, 10-3 decision over Christina Samoilov at No. 3 singles while
newcomer Valeria Couto Cuervo won in straight-sets at No. 4,
defeating Alexander Kay, 6-3, 6-0.
Katharine Fancazio and Lauren Mullen were also victorious at
five and six singles respectively.
Against Northern Kentucky, Francazio was a winner at No. 5
singles, defeating Emily Okerson, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 while Emma
Czarnecki and Valeria Couto Cuervo earned a win at No. 2 doubles by
a score of 8-2.
