BRYANT WOMEN'S TENNIS DEFEATS HOLY FAMILY 8-1

SMITHFIELD, RI - The Bryant University women's tennis team earned a big 8-1 non-conference win over Holy Family Sunday afternoon at the chilly Bryant Tennis Courts.  The Bulldogs captured all three doubles points to open the match and got strong performances from Emma Czarnecki at No. 1 and Chelsea Downing at No. 2 in singles play.

Czarnecki won the first game against the Tigers' Lauren Neill 6-1, but after falling to Neill 6-4 in the second, pulled out a gritty 10-8 decision in the third.  Downing rolled to a straight set win over Quena Borres, 6-1, 6-1.

Shakir Willett was a winner for Holy Family at No. 3 singles, defeating Bryant's Michelle Burke, but wins by Katharine Francazio, Valeria Couto Cuervo and Lauren Mullen helped the Bulldogs to the victory on the afternoon.

Bryant will host Roger Williams Thursday before returning to Northeast-10 Conference action next Saturday hosting Stonehill College.
