WOMEN'S SWIMMING COMES BACK TO BEAT
SACRED HEART, 106-99, AT THE CHACE CENTER FRIDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. - Jess Looney (Goffstown, N.H. /
Goffstown) and Amy D'Olympia (Mattapoisett, Mass.
/ Bishop Stang) each won two events to help lead the
Bryant women's swim team in a dramatic come-from-behind win over
Sacred Heart on Friday afternoon at the Chace Center Pool to earn
its first Northeast Conference victory and improve to 2-0 at home
this season.
Trailing 92-77 with just the 200 breaststroke and the 400
freestyle relay left, the Bulldogs (3-5) got an outstanding
performance from sophomore Lisa Zanchi (North Reading, Mass
/ North Reading), who put up a career-best 2:36.20 in the
200 yard breaststroke to take down first place and keep Bryant
hopes alive, trailing 97-91 with one event to go. Allison
Schaab (Boothwyn, Pa. / Garnet Valley) and
Sarah Drew (Milton, Mass. / Notre Dame
Academy) also picked up big points in the event, grabbing
third and fourth place respectively.
Still trailing going into the final event, Bryant needed at
least a first and third place finish out of its two relay teams to
get the win. The team of D'Olympia, Jill Squillante
(Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville), Jackie Pajor
(Glastonbury, Conn. / Glastonbury) and Zanchi coasted to a
first place finish with a time of 3:53.26, while the team of
Amy Howell (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa),
Kelly Hill (Tarrytown, N.Y. / Sleepy Hollow),
Cassy Fostik (Neshanic Station, N.J. / Hunterdon
Central) and Kerry Timulty (Randolph, Mass. /
Ursuline) was able to take home second place thanks to a
lightning fourth leg by Timulty, coming in with a split time of
59.17 and overtaking Sacred Heart.
Bryant will jump right back in the pool tomorrow afternoon as
they take on Bridgeport and Adelphi at the Chace Center (1 p.m.).
