WOMEN SPLIT TRI-MEET WITH WIN OVER
ADELPHI AND TOUGH LOSS TO BRIDGEPORT; BRYANT MEN TRUMP ADELPHI,

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's and women's swim
teams took key wins Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic
Center, with the men topping Adelphi University, 99-94, and the
women splitting on the day with a 158-43 win over Adelphi and a
tough 104-94 loss to the University of Bridgeport.
Junior Jess Looney (Goffstown, N.H.) and
sophomore Lisa Zanchi (North Reading, Mass.) took
the only first-place finishes for the Bulldog women, with Looney
taking to top spot in the 400 IM (4:58.12) and Zanchi winning out
the 100 breaststroke (1:16.37).
The Bryant women also took first in the tri-meet's opening
event, the 200-yard medley relay, where Zanchi and Looney were
joined by Abby Whittaker (Salisbury, Mass.) and
Dayna Konko (Staten Island, N.Y.) to touch the
wall first in 2:01.70.
On the men's side, Tom Ferrigno (West Chester,
Pa.) led the Bulldog men on the day with a pair of
individuals wins, touching first in the 1000-yard freestyle
(10:08.34) and the 400-yard IM (4:24.46). The senior also took a
close second in the 100-yard backstroke, with Adelphi's Corey McKee
edging him by a nose and finishing just .03 seconds ahead of
Ferrigno.
Another strong player for Bryant was freshman Kevin
McDonald (North Haven, Conn.), who won the 50 free in
23.37 and was edged out by Adelphi's Tory Cozzi by just .02 seconds
in the 100-yard free.
Steven Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.) also took home
a win in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:47.32.
The Bulldog men and women next compete Saturday, Jan. 24 when
they take on Stony Brook University at the Chace Athletic Center
Pool at 1 p.m.
