PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bryant University men's tennis team turned in a fine performance with several individuals advancing including juniors Cristian Balestrieri (right) and Nicholai Hill at the 2009 Northeast Invitational hosted by Brown University.

Balestrieri and Hill both came back from dropping their opening matches to finish ninth individually.  Balestrieri fell to Fairleigh Dickinson's Dom Hemy in three sets in the opener in the No. 1 flight singles play, but cam eback to defeat Alex Leeser of Villanova 7-5, 6-3 and advanced to the ninth-place match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Brown's Luciano Musella.  In the ninth-place match, the native of Mar Del Plata, Argentina defeated Dartmouth's Jeff Friedman, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.

Hill, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, defeated Hofstra's Alex Hosner and Seth Rogers of Brandeis to advance to the ninth-place match where he pulled out a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win over Hofstra's Ben Thompson-Star.

Newcomer Juan Martin Paredes of Ecuador earned a win over Colgate's Michael Yassky to advance to the second-flight semifinals of No. 2 singles.

"We earned a lot of respect last year and were moved up in every flight and even in some cases, up two spaces," said a pleased Bryant coach Ron Gendron.  "The selection committee saw fit to let us run with the "Big Dogs" and we held our own and then some."

The Bulldogs host UConn Wednesday at the Bryant Tennis Complex starting at 3 pm.
