MEN'S TENNIS HAS BIG WEEKND AT NORTHEAST
INVITATIONAL
results
PROVIDENCE, RI - The Bryant University men's tennis team turned in
a fine performance with several individuals advancing including
juniors Cristian Balestrieri (right) and Nicholai Hill at the
2009 Northeast Invitational hosted by Brown University.
Balestrieri and Hill both came back from dropping their opening
matches to finish ninth individually. Balestrieri fell to
Fairleigh Dickinson's Dom Hemy in three sets in the opener in the
No. 1 flight singles play, but cam eback to defeat Alex Leeser of
Villanova 7-5, 6-3 and advanced to the ninth-place match with a
6-2, 6-3 win over Brown's Luciano Musella. In the ninth-place
match, the native of Mar Del Plata, Argentina defeated Dartmouth's
Jeff Friedman, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8.
Hill, a native of Ottawa, Ontario, defeated Hofstra's Alex
Hosner and Seth Rogers of Brandeis to advance to the ninth-place
match where he pulled out a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 win
over Hofstra's Ben Thompson-Star.
Newcomer Juan Martin Paredes of Ecuador earned a win over
Colgate's Michael Yassky to advance to the second-flight semifinals
of No. 2 singles.
"We earned a lot of respect last year and were moved up in every
flight and even in some cases, up two spaces," said a pleased
Bryant coach Ron Gendron. "The selection committee saw fit to
let us run with the "Big Dogs" and we held our own and then some."
The Bulldogs host UConn Wednesday at the Bryant Tennis Complex
starting at 3 pm.
