BULLDOGS TAKE DOWN TERRIERS, BRYANT REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH 5-2
WIN SATURDAY AFTERNOON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by a combination of veteran
leadership and youthful talent, the Bryant University men's tennis
team picked up a big 5-2 win over Boston University Saturday
afternoon at the Bryant Tennis Complex.
The victory improves the Bulldogs to 3-0 on the season and
avenges a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Terriers last season.
"This is the biggest Bulldog tennis win in two years," said head
coach Ron Gendron. "The effort and energy today was through the
roof."
The Bulldogs started strong in doubles action as senior
Christian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina)
and junior Juan-Martin
Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) teamed up to knock off Josh
Friedman and Jarred Pendleton, 8-4, at No.1. The duo of Dana Parziale
(Pinehurst, N.C.) and Connor Crowley
(London, Ontario) went on to claim the doubles point for
the Bulldogs with an 8-6 win at the third slot.
In singles play, Paredes and Balestrieri paced the Bulldogs with
a pair of solid 7-5, 6-2, victories as Paredes defeated Friedman at
No. 1 while Balestrieri downed Jesse Frieder at the second
spot.
A pair of freshman rounded out the Bulldog lineup as Parziale
claimed third singles with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Bill Kring and
Vidith Huot
(Providence, R.I.) took No. 6 with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over
Regis Chang.
The Black and Gold return to the court on Sunday, Oct. 24 when
they travel to Holy Cross.
