WOMEN'S TENNIS SHUTS DOWN MONMOUTH, 7-0, ON HOMECOMING

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team improved to 4-1 in dual-meet competition and undefeated in Northeast Conference play as the Bulldogs rolled past Monmouth, 7-0, Saturday at the Bryant Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs kicked off the homecoming match with a clean sweep at doubles to pick up the point, headlined by an impressive 8-0 win at the first spot from the tandem of Claudia Hidalgo (Guayaquil, Ecuador) and Lucy Bird (Hamilton, New Zealand). Valeria Couto-Cuervo (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Stephanie Smyers (Pittsburgh, Pa.) followed up with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles while Katie Francazio (Cranston, R.I.) and Irma Rodriguez-Lockwood (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) closed out doubles with an 8-3 victory at the third slot.

In singles play, Hidalgo knocked off Nicole Lippens, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1 while Bird claimed No. 2 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Brooke Verdiglione. Smyers took third singles, 6-1, 6-1, while Jessica Vickers (Montrose, Colo.), Couto-Cuervo and Francazio rounded out the winning Bulldog lineup, respectively.

The Black and Gold return to the court on Oct. 16-17 for the New England Championships.
