VICTORY AT LOUISIANA CLASSIC
Bradley Box / Syracuse Box / Syracuse 2 Box
SMITHFIELD, RI - After dropping both
games of opening day of action at the 24th annual Louisiana
Classic, the Bryant University softball team was unable to earn a
victory over its next three games in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Bryant (0-5) returned to action on Saturday, Feb. 13 when they
faced Bradley University (3-0) for the second and final time of the
Classic. In the first matchup the Bulldogs were beaten 5-4 by the
Braves. On Saturday the Braves jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in
the first inning and never looked back as they cruised to an 8-0
win.
Braves' starting pitcher Brandi Ore went three innings before
ever allowing a Bulldog hit. It was junior Regina Burdo
(Wayne, Pa.) that broke up the Ore no-hitter. Burdo,
batting in the No. 9 spot in the order bunted safely for the first
Bryant hit in the bottom of the third.
Bradley added two more runs in the top of the fifth to take a
5-0 lead over the Bulldogs. Sophomore Lauren McCart
(Voorhees, N.J.) singled down the left field line and
Burdo followed with a singled of her own to lead off the bottom of
the fifth for Bryant. After a fielder's choice and a Bryant
pop-out, senior tri-captain Ashley Coon (Levittown,
Pa.) loaded the bases with a walk but the Black and Gold
were unable to score a run as they stranded three on base.
The Braves added three more in the top of the seventh as they
defeated the Bulldogs 8-0. Burdo had two of the three Bulldog hits
as she went 2-2 in the game. Freshman pitcher Jennifer
Jacob (Deer Park, N.Y.) was the losing pitcher in the
contest as she went four innings and allowed four earned runs.
Bryant returned to action at 6:30 p.m. CT as they faced a
northeast opponent in Syracuse University on Saturday night. The
Orange (2-2) scored five runs in the second inning and held on to
defeat Bryant 5-0 as the Bulldogs were unable to register a
run.

sophomore Lauara Bowen (Hudson, Mass.) both went
2-3 on the day. Zizza hit a double in the fourth and a single in
the sixth in the Bryant loss. Tri-captain Ali Chouinard
(Swansea, Mass.) was 1-3 with a single in the game.

innings and struck out eight as she earned her second loss of the
tournament.

the sixth en route to their 4-0 lead. 'Cuse pitcher Stacy
Kuwik pitched all seven innings and allowed only one Bryant hit.
Bowen doubled to center field in the top of the seventh but the
Bulldogs could not score the sophomore.
