SOFTBALL'S FINAL DAY
OF REBEL GAMES RAINED OUT; CONCLUDE WITH 3-1 LOSS TO INDIANA STATE
THURSDAY
SMITHFIELD, RI – The Bryant University softball team
dropped a 3-1 decision to Indiana State Thursday, in what turns out
to be the Bulldogs' last game in Kissimmee, Florida. Due to
two days of non-stop rain, Rebel Game officials have called off the
final day of play.
Bryant (1-11) could not put the hits together on Thursday
morning as they fell to the Indiana State Sycamores (10-5) by a
score of 3-1. With multiple doubles in the first inning of play,
the Sycamores jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after one inning of
play.
After failing to capitalize on an opportunity in the fourth
inning, the Bulldogs made good in the fifth earning one run to cut
the margin to 2-1. Sophomore Lindsay Martin (Methuen,
Mass.) got the inning going with a single to lead off off
and later came around to score on a Kate Murray (Fitchburg,
Mass.) fielder's choice. Bryant had two runners on
with two outs but the Sycamores managed to pitch out of the threat
and allow only one Bulldog to cross the plate.
Indiana State picked up one more run in the bottom of the fifth
inning to take a 3-1 lead over the Black and Gold. Bulldog captain
Sami Houseal (Mount Joy, Pa.) pitched well but
Bryant's bats could never get going. Houseal pitched a
complete game, allowing just five hits and striking out two.
“Our pitching has looked much better so far, we just need
to start stringing hits together and capitalize on scoring
opportunities,” said head coach Lisa-Ann Wallace.
Due to non-stop rain, the Bulldogs final three games have been
cancelled at the annual Rebel Spring Games.
The Black and Gold return to action on Tuesday, March 16 at 4
p.m. when they host Patriot League affiliate, Holy Cross in the
2010 home opener.
