BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Bryant University baseball
team ran into one of the region's top pitchers Friday as the
Bulldogs dropped a tough 10-0 decision at Northeastern
University.
NU starter Les Williams, a junior righty from Toronto, Ontario
and former member of the Canadian Junior National Team, threw eight
innings of one-hit ball against the Bulldogs to pick up his second
win of the season.
Northeastern (5-3) took command of the game early. After
the Bulldogs were retired in order to open the game, the Huskies
scored three times in the bottom of the first, two on a single by
freshman Alan Pastyrnak and another on a groundout to third by
Frank Compagnone.
The Huskies would threaten again later in the third, loading the
bases after starter Sal Lisanti (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
gave up a double to Pastyrnak, a walk to Compagnone and single to
left by Tony DiCesare with nobody out. Lisanti would hit
Brendan Stokes on a 1-0 pitch to force in a run to make it 4-0 and
Northeastern would add two more to make it 6-0.
Brent Almeida (Fairhaven, Mass.) would come on
in the fifth with two on and just one out, but would get Logan
Gillis to ground into an inning-ending double play and the Bulldogs
would escape any damage.
However, four more runs in the sixth put the game away.
Bryant (2-10) could manage only one hit off Williams, a single
to shortstop by senior Dylan Stone (Portsmouth,
R.I.) before giving way to Dan Zehr in the ninth.
The Bulldogs and Huskies will meet Saturday at the Bryant
Baseball Complex Saturday. Freshman Joe Michaud (Milford,
Conn, 1-1, 7.94) takes the mound for the Bulldogs while
Northeastern will send sophomore lefty Drew Leenhouts (0-0, 7.94)
ERA to the hill. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
