HILTON HEAD, GA – The Bryant University men's tennis team picked up a big win Monday in the first outdoor match of the spring as the Bulldogs downed Young Harris, the 19th-ranked junior college team in the country, 7-0.

Playing on clay courts, the Bulldogs came out strong against the Mountain Lions as Juan Paredes played well at No. 1 singles, using timely drop shots to knock off Koen Gotterhos, 6-0, 6-1.  Senior co-captain Tom Nowak picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Mitchell Midkiff while senior co-captain Kevin Gardiner, playing in his home state of Georgia, had a good battle against Will Dixon but held on for a 6-1, 6-4 win.

The weather in Hilton Head was a beautiful 72 degrees which posed no problem for Cristian Balestrieri who earned a 6-4, 7-5 win over Laureni Schraepen at No. 2 singles while Canadian Nicholai Hill and Puerto Rican Andres Orobitg had big wins over YHC's Jamie Childree and Felix Reichel respectively.

“The second half of our season has started,” said coach Ron Gendron.  “It's time to step up.”

The Bulldogs face George Mason Tuesday, Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday and Kutztown Friday.
