Box Score SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Central Connecticut senior Ken Horton scored a game-high 32 points on 13-of-19 shooting as the visiting Blue Devils cruised to an 83-51 win over Bryant University in Northeast Conference men's basketball action Thursday night at the Chace Athletic Center.
In the conference opener for both teams, the visiting Blue Devils (4-2, 1-0 NEC) shot 51 percent from the floor in the game (62.1 in the second half), drained 13 three-pointers in the victory and scored 32 points off 19 Bryant miscues.
Bryant (1-6, 0-1), playing at home for the first time this season, placed four players in double figures with Alex Francis, Corey Maynard, and Frankie Dobbs all scoring 12 points in the game. The Bulldogs shot just 32 percent from the floor and managed just five 3-pointers on the night.
Central Connecticut jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead just four minutes into the game thanks to a pair of three's from Horton. The Bulldogs would finally get on the board nearly six minutes in when Corey Maynard drilled a 3-point field goal for the team's first points.
A layup from Raphael Jordan brought the Bulldogs to within 15-7, but Horton continued to torch the Bulldogs, scoring both inside and out as the 6-foot-6 forward put the Blue Devils up, 22-7, with a layup and dunk.
He finished the first half leading all scorers with 16 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, not to mention adding seven rebounds and three steals as the visitors went into the locker room up 37-19 at the break.
But the story of the game was the sharpshooting by the Blue Devils. After draining six 3-pointers in the first half, Central Connecticut continued its torrid shooting in the second half, making seven more long range treys to finish the game with 13 – just three shy of the school record.
CCSU senior guard Robby Ptacek chipped in with 20 points while freshman Malcolm McMillan dished out 13 assists in 34 minutes. Raphael Jordan added 11 points off the bench for the Bulldogs who will return to action this Saturday when they visit Quinnipiac University for a 3 pm game.
