SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University women's tennis team claimed a big 7-0 victory over the University of Puerto Rico – Rio Piedras Sunday in the opening match of their Spring Break trip, taking all three doubles matches for the early point and then completing the bout with a clean sweep at singles.
Bryant was led by sophomore Claudia Hidalgo (Guayaquil, Ecuador), who picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles after teaming up with Lucy Bird for a tough 9-7 win at first doubles. Freshman May Vickers (Montrose, Colo.) and senior Valeria Couto Cuervo (Guayanabo, Puerto Rico) were dominant in singles competition as they claimed 6-0, 6-0 victories at fourth and fifth singles, respectively.
