Tuxbury breaks 3000 record Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) broke a program record as the Bryant University women's track and field team competed at the Terrier Invitational on Friday night.

After completing an outstanding cross country season in which she was named the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, Tuxbury started her assault on the Bryant record books on Friday. Competing in the 3000, Tuxbury finished 19th in a field of 88 with a time of 9:55.31. Her time was just enough to eclipse the program mark set by Deirdre Doyle (9:55.93) during the 2009-10 season.

In just her second career meet, classmate Nicole Dempsey (Norwell, Mass.) finished 48th in the 60m dash with a time of 8.29, the top time for the Bulldogs in the event this season. Junior Martha Reynolds (London, England) ran her best mile of the season as well, finishing 27th with a season-best time of 5:05.11.

The women return to the track next weekend when they travel to Kingston, R.I., for the Torpey Memorial Invitational hosted by Rhode Island.
