TWO SCHOOL RECORDS FALL AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – School-record performances from junior Eimear Black (Glengormley, Ireland) and sophomore Kara Walsh (Waltham, Mass.) highlighted the Bryant University track and field team's appearance at the New England Championships held at Boston University.
Two weeks after setting the school record in the 5000 at the Northeast Conference championships, Black broke the school record in the 3000 with a time of 9:49.69, besting the record that was set by teammate Annmarie Tuxbury (New Hartford, Conn.) earlier this year. Already a school record holder in the 800, Walsh set the school record in the 1000 with a time of 2:59.91, becoming the first Bulldog to run a sub-3:00 1000.
Martha Reynolds (London, England), Tuxbury and Erin Svensen (Medway, Mass.) also competed for the Black and Gold. Reynolds finished 12th in the mile run with a time of 5:00.53, Tuxbury finished 18th in the mile (5:05.39) and Svensen was 26th in the 5000 (18:40.01).
The Bulldogs also received strong performances on the men's side. Sophomore Blake Fenwick (Thomaston, Conn.) had an outstanding weekend, missing a school record by just two one-hundredths of a second. He finished 15th with a time of 15:03.29, just shy of Scott Twardowski's record of 15:03.27. Francis Foley (Acton, Mass.) also set a personal best in the 1000 with a time of 2:34.29, finishing 27th. Nicholas Douglas (Shelton, Conn.) also had recorded a season-best time in the 400 with a time of 50.25. Bryant's 4x400 relay finished 16th with a time of 3:20.66.
