SOFTBALL LOOKS TO STAY HOT WEDNESDAY AT ALBANY (2/4 P.M.)
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a weekend split with Northeast Conference foe Saint Francis U., the Bryant University softball team will head to Albany for a two-game tilt against the Great Danes on Wednesday (2/4 p.m.).
The Bulldogs enter Wednesday's action with an 11-15 overall record, 4-6 in the NEC, after winning six of their last seven including seven in-a-row. On Saturday, the Black and Gold split an afternoon doubleheader with the Red Flash, falling 9-5 in Game 1, before avenging the loss with a 9-2 victory in Game 2. In Game 2, freshman Elle Madsen (Wheat Ridge, Colo.) put together the most impressive showing of her young collegiate career, allowing just two runs (both unearned) in seven innings of work while collecting three hits (all doubles) and five RBI en route to a 9-2 win.
Madsen, the back-to-back reiging NEC Rookie of the Week posted a perfect 2-0 record and 1.05 era in 13.1 innings for Bryant over the past five games to go along with six hits and nine RBI. Junior Aubrey Mable (Aurora, Colo.) was also recognized for her stellar play as of late with the NEC Player of the Week award after hitting .647 and driving in 10 RBI over the past five contests.
Albany will be no easy task for Bryant on Wednesday as the Great Danes come into the week with an 19-7 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in America East action. Sophomore outfielder Vicky McFarland leads Albany with a .345 batting average to go along with a team-best 23 runs, five homeruns and 17 RBI. Junior infielder Charlise Castro is hitting just a hair behind McFarland with a .344 average with five homers and 20 RBI. Brittany MacFawn and Emily Ostrom handle the pitching duties for Albany, with the former logging more than 100 innings pitched in just 17 appearances.
