SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Paced by a pair of wins from freshman Ryan Brown (Austin, Texas), the Bryant University women's tennis team continued its fall campaign at the Army Invitational over the weekend.
In the no. 2 singles flight, Brown topped Angie Dabu of Fordham, 7-5, 5-7, 10-3, in the opening round thanks to the freshman's strong service game, before defeating Gabriella Spindler of Army, 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 16. In the quarterfinals, Brown ran into eventual flight-champion Adesuwa Osabouhien of Stony Brook, falling, 6-3, 6-2.
At no. 1 singles, Marion Bouillin (San Diego, Calif.) advanced to the second round to face Illinois' Audrey O'Connor. Bouillin fell in the first set, 6-2, but regrouped to come back and earn a huge 6-2 win in set number two. In the third and final set, the two went toe-to-toe with Bouillin coming just one point away from securing the win, but O'Connor fought back to win, 13-11.
Freshman Briana Leonard (Westford, Mass.) and Jovana Hadzi-Tanovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) also had strong showings, each earning a no. 4 singles victory.
The Bulldogs will have a few days off before they host Hartford on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 3:30 p.m.
