Bulldogs maul Hartford, Conn College, Stonehill at Bryant Invite Sunday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After a strong showing at the MIT Invitational on Saturday, the Bryant University men's tennis team dominated on Sunday on their home turf at the Bryant Invitational, competing against the likes of Hartford, Connecticut College and Stonehill.

Using an experimental scoring format in which each set is worth one point, with a total of 10 possible points available for each match, the Bulldogs dominated the competition with a 25-point performance. Conn. College finished second with 15 points, while Hartford (13) and Stonehill (7) finished in third and fourth, respectively.

"This was a great event to showcase all of our players who work hard every day, but just don't get the opportunity to compete on a regular basis," said Bryant head coach Ron Gendron. "They all responded with pride and character, taking down very improved lineups from Conn. College and Hartford, and knocking off old foe Stonehill in true Bulldog fashion."

The Black and Gold won 10 of 12 singles matches seeing victories from Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.), Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.), Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico), John Templeman (Midland, Mich.), Alexander Ellwanger (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Christian Duarte (Dallas, Texas), Guillaume Sabourin (United Arab Emirates, Dubai), and Munir Serin (Mersin, Turkey).

Bryant also won two of three doubles matches with Nick Lamart (Raleigh, N.C.) and Templeman defeating Sharwarko/Romaine (Hartford), 6-4, 7-6, and Corey DiPaola (Lincoln, R.I.) and Sipala taking down Maffa/Sachs (Conn. College), 6-4, 6-3.

Looking ahead, the Bulldogs will wrap up yet another historic fall season with the ITA Regionals in Flushing, N.Y., starting on Thursday.
