Bulldogs down X-Men in Halloween exhibition

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Redshirt junior Zach Chionuma (Jamesville, N.Y.) scored 17 points and fifth-year senior Joe O'Shea (Burlington, Vt.) added 12 points and five assists as the Bryant University men's basketball team defeated Saint Francis Xavier, 102-54, in an exhibition game on Friday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center.

Playing their only exhibition of the year, the Bulldogs started the game with a 35-9 run and shot 9-of-16 from behind the arc in the first half to ease past the X-Men.

Playing in his first game with the Black and Gold, Chionuma was the top scorer Friday afternoon. Chinouma was hot off the bench, hitting all three of his triples in the first half. He finished 6-of-9 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from deep. O'Shea had a solid all-around game, finishing 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.

The Bulldogs also received strong performances from sophomore Danny Garvin (Bethel, Conn.) and freshmen Angus Riley (Nelson, New Zealand) and Hunter Ware (Powder Springs, Ga.). Garvin had seven points and eight rebounds, Riley poured in 11 points and grabbed seven boards while Ware chipped in 12 points, four assists and didn't commit a turnover.

Bryant finished the game 36-of-58 from the field and 14-of-27 from beyond the arc. The Black and Gold turned the ball over only nine times and outrebounded the X-Men, 40-25. 

Bryant opens the 2014 regular season on Friday, Nov. 14 at defending national champion Connecticut. Tip is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Gampel Pavilion.
