Men's Basketball

Bryant returns to non-conference play to host Harvard Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

GAME NOTES

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University men's basketball team takes a break from Northeast Conference play to host regional rival Harvard Tuesday night at the Chace Athletic Center. The 5:30 p.m. tipoff can be seen live on NECFrontRow.com and heard on WOON 1240 AM.

THE SERIES
The Bulldogs and the Crimson have faced off on the hardwood three times before, with Harvard winning all three contests. The Crimson earned a 77-51 home win in the series debut back in November of 2009 and edged out Bryant in Smithfield, 69-66, in the teams' last meeting in Smithfield back on Nov. 24, 2010. Last season, Harvard handed the Bulldogs an 86-68 loss in Massachusetts.

SCOUTING THE CRIMSON
Wesley Saunders leads the 10-4 Crimson with 16.1 points per game and is the only double-digit scorer for Harvard, also pacing the side with 29 steals. Corbin Miller averages 9.8 points per game and is the team's top 3-point threat (2.6 per game), while Steve Moundou-Missi's 6.8 rebounds per outing (7.7 ppg) pace Harvard on the glass. The Crimson also get 8.9 points per game from Siyani Chambers, who dishes out nearly five assists per game. Harvard shoots 44.3 percent from the floor as a team, scoring just over 64 points per game while limiting opponents to 39.2 percent accuracy and 56.3 points each time out. Harvard's only losses of the season have come against Holy Cross, Virginia, ASU and Boston College.

CURRENT BULLDOGS vs. HARVARD
Seven current Bulldogs have seen action against the Crimson in their careers, but none have done so more than once. Senior  guards Dyami Starks and Joe O'Shea both scored 11 points in last season's tilt, while sophomore forward Dan Garvin scored 13 on 5-of-7 shooting from the floor while pulling in a team-leading six rebounds despite the loss. Redshirt-freshman Bosko Kostur added five points with a steal, while junior Curtis Oakley scored four more in 11 minutes of action. Shane McLaughlin (2 assists, 12 minutes) and Ellis Williams also saw limited action against the Crimson in the contest. Current Bulldogs shot .515 (17-33) from the field in the game.

BRYANT vs. THE IVY LEAGUE
Tuesday's matchup is the fourth and final contest against members of the Ivy League in 2014-15, as the Bulldogs will be looking for their first win over  an Ancient Eight opponent this season. Bryant is 6-20 against Ivy League schools in its short Division I history, having matched up against Columbia (0-3), Brown (2-5), Cornell (0-2), Harvard (0-3), Yale (2-5) and Dartmouth (2-2) over the last seven seasons. In the all-time history of the program, the Bulldogs are just 6-27 against Ivy League opponents, most frequently matching up against intrastate rival Brown (2-12).

GOING STREAKING
Saturday's 70-54 win at Central Connecticut not only extended Bryant's current winning streak to four games, but put the Bulldogs above .500 for the first time this season. The 8-7 Black and Gold have been surging in a big way as of late, having now won five of six contests in 2015 and seven of their last nine dating back to Dec. 9.

WARE, OH WARE
Rookie guard Hunter Ware led the Bulldogs and posted a career-high 20 points in Saturday's 70-54 road win over CCSU. The performance was a game high and came off an 8-of-11 shooting mark from the field, including a pair of treys. It marked the first 20-point outing of the Georgia native's young career.

SHOOTING PROFILE
The Bulldogs have shot better than 50 percent three times over their current four-game winning streak, including in the team's last two-consecutive outings. The Black and Gold have shot 50 percent or better four times in 2014-15 and are 4-0 in those outings. Conversely, Bryant's 73-60 win over FDU Jan. 10 marked the first time this season the Bulldogs have shot less than 40 percent from the field (.392) and come away with the victory. Bryant is now 1-6 when shooting below .400 but is 6-1 when converting at least 40 percent of its shots.

OH DANNY BOY
Last week's NEC Player of the Week, sophomore starting forward Dan Garvin picked up his second double-double in the last three games Saturday at CCSU, scoring 15 points while pulling in a game-best 11 rebounds. The Bethel, Conn., native recorded a host of new career highs Jan. 8 and 10 en route to earning his first-career Northeast Conference weekly honor, including setting new personal bests for points scored in both of Bryant's wins. Garvin netted a career-high 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting with seven rebounds and three blocks in an 80-54 win over Saint Francis U. Jan. 8, but his most impressive showing was yet to come. In last Saturday's 73-60 victory over FDU, he established new career marks with 16 points, 18 rebounds and four steals in the first double-double effort of the year by a Bryant player. The 18 rebounds tied for the most in the NEC this year and marked the highest total by a Bulldog since Alex Francis ('14) recorded 18 at CCSU on January 12, 2013.
