Box Score

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Behind a game-high 19 points from senior point guard Jenniqua Bailey (Bloomfield, Conn.), the Bryant University women's basketball team took down Wagner, 64-47, Monday night in Staten Island, N.Y.

With the win, the Bulldogs (20-7, 13-3 Northeast Conference) earn their second five-game win streak of the season while holding the Seahawks (6-21, 4-12 NEC) to under 50 points for the second time this year.

Jenniqua Bailey led all scorers with 19 points, 9-of-11 from the free throw line, to go along with six boards and five assists, while junior forward Breanna Rucker (Cincinnati, Ohio) beasted her way to her 21st double-double of the year, finishing with 15 points and 12 boards. Junior guard Tiersa Winder (Baltimore, Md.) rounded out the Bryant double-figure scorers with 12 points and a career-high tying four helpers.

Sophomore center Morgan Olander (Mansfield, Conn.) grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with eight points, while freshman Ivory Bailey (Wyomissing, Pa.) chipped in six points and five caroms.

Jasmine Nwajei paced Wagner in the scoring column with 16 despite 4-of-26 shooting (15 percent) from the field. Lindsay Rowe clocked in with 10 points as the only other Seahawk to hit double-digits.

Despite the early back-and-forth, the Bulldogs dominated Wagner from start to finish. After a Nwajei layup at the 13:52 mark gave the hosts a 13-9 lead, Bryant rattled off a 26-2 run which lasted 13:31 to open a 35-15 margin just before halftime.

The second period brought more of the same, as the Seahawks struggled to find an answer for the Black and Gold offense. Despite shrinking the gap to nine on three occasions, Wagner was unable to dig out of the hole it built itself in the first half, resulting in the Bulldogs' fifth-straight win, 64-47.

The victory puts Bryant in a strong position heading into the final week of the regular season with just two games remaining on the NEC slate. The Bulldogs currently sit atop the league standings, tied with Central Connecticut (both at 13-3) who knocked off Saint Francis U. Monday night, setting up a potential NEC Championship-deciding matchup on Monday (7 p.m.) when the Blue Devils visit the Chace Athletic Center.
