SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After a week and a half hiatus from competition due to weather, the Bryant University men's tennis team returned to action on the road, losing to Georgetown, 5-1, on Saturday and UMBC, 4-1, on Sunday.

Saturday

After drawing, 6-6, in No. 1 doubles, freshman Michael Plutt's (Weston, Fla.) and sophomore Nick Lamart's (Raleigh, N.C.) battle against Jordan Portner and Michael Chen went unfinished, following the Hoyas' (7-8, 1-1 BIG East) 3-1 lead in the tiebreak. Georgetown went on to capture the doubles point, winning the No. 2 doubles, 7-6 (5) and No. 3 doubles, 6-3.

Senior Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) captured the Bulldogs' (6-11, 1-0 NEC) only point in No. 1 singles play, defeating Daniel Khanin, 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Artur Jakubowski (Dallas, Texas) won the first set, 6-2, against Will Sharton in No. 5 singles, but Sharton bounced back to win the next two sets, 6-2, 10-4. The Hoyas went on to trump the Bulldogs, 5-1, in Arlington.

Sunday

The Bulldogs captured their only point of the match in doubles play, winning in both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. The Bryant twosome of Lamart and Plutt took down the Retrievers' (6-13, 1-1 America East) Melker Svard and Eliott Loubatie, 6-4, in No. 1 doubles. Sophomore Jorge Ortiz-Garcia (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) and classmate Josh Kliger (Newport Beach, Calif.) paired up to defeat Biyik Akinshemoyin and Kevin Hsieh, 6-1, in No. 3 doubles.

UMBC went on to dominate in singles play, winning the first four singles matchups, before the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches went unfinished. Sophomore Luke Lorenz (Colorado Springs, Colo.) forced a third set after splitting with Alex Drean, 6-2, 3-6. Drean was able to capture the No. 3 singles point after outscoring Lorenz, 6-3, in the final set. The Retrievers dominance in singles led to their, 5-1, victory over the Bulldogs in Baltimore.
