Holloway scores 17, but Bulldogs fall in road tilt to Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Sophomore Sydney Holloway (Morgantown, W.Va.) led the Bulldogs with 17 points, but the Bryant University women's basketball team fell on the road to Robert Morris, 72-49, Saturday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex in Moon Township.

KEY MOMENTS

  • RMU's Honoka Ikematsu opened the second quarter with a 3-point shot to give the Colonials a four-point lead and swung the momentum in Robert Morris' favor.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Kierra Palmer (Aberdeen, Md.) hit a deep 3-pointer to start a 9-0 Bulldog run to open the game. The Colonials, however, would storm back and carry a 15-14 advantage into the second quarter.
  • Bryant attempted just five shots in the second quarter, as Robert Morris played tight-defense. RMU outscored Bryant, 20-6, in the quarter and had a 35-20 lead at halftime.
  • The Colonials won the third quarter, 25-12. RMU's Megan Callahan scored nine points in the quarter.
  • Bryant outscored RMU in the fourth quarter, 17-12. Senior captain Kathleen Everson (Farmingville, N.Y.) scored four points in the frame, while Holloway poured in six.

STATS

  • Nine of the 12 players on Bryant's roster scored at least two points on Saturday.
  • The Bulldogs won the rebounding battle with Robert Morris, coming away with a 41-30 advantage on the glass. Redshirt junior Naomi Ashley (Hamitlon, Ont.) and freshman Hannah Scanlan (Rumson, N.J.) each had a game-high seven rebounds.
  • Ashley also had eight points and five steals.

GAME NOTES

  • Holloway scored at least 15 points for the 11th time this season. She ended the game with 17.
  • Ashley's five steals were the third-most this season by the Canada native. Her season high was nine, set at Holy Cross.
  • The Bulldogs have outrebounded all conference opponents that they have played this season.
  • The starting lineup of Masey Zegarowski (Hamilton, Mass.), Ashley, Holloway, Scanlan, and Palmer had its first blemish of the season. That starting lineup was 5-0 entering the weekend.

UP NEXT

Bryant travels to Loretto, Pennsylvania, on Monday for a 6 p.m. showdown with the Red Flash of Saint Francis University. SFU is second in the Northeast Conference with a 7-1 record in league play and an overall record of 12-8.
