TUCSON, Ariz. – Heavy rains came down midway through the Bryant University softball team's season-opening game against Louisiana Monroe, canceling the first two scheduled games of the Bulldogs' season.
The Bulldogs and Warhawks made it through four innings before the rain became too heavy to play through. The game will not be counted toward the Bulldogs season.
"We came out strong defensively and aggressive offensively," Bryant head softball coach Shayne Lotito said. "I'm really excited to continue to get out there and get time on the field so we can continue to progress in our development and as a team."
Prior to the rain, freshman Sabrina Crane (St. John, Ind.) reached on an infield single and stole second base. Senior catcher Robyn Ukegawa (Carlsbad, Calif.) threw a would-be baserunner out to end the fourth inning.
The Bulldogs will now take on Troy and Colorado State on Saturday in a doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m. Mountain time and Arizona Sunday at 3 p.m. Mountain time.
