BUFFALO, N.Y. – Graduate student Micah Ornelas (San Diego, Calif.) and senior Tavish Boyle (Springfield, N.J.) both picked up two gold medals on Friday as the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team remained in second place after day three of the 2019 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships at Erie Community College.
The Bulldogs have scored 397 points over the first three days, trailing only Rider who has 546 points.

Day Two Highlights
- Ornelas turned heads on Friday as he broke the MAAC record in the 100 fly during the prelims. He went on to earn a gold medal in the event, posting an NCAA 'B' cut time of 46.80.
- Boyle then earned the right to taste the sweet, sweet gold medal that had eluded him in years past. He won the 100 breast with a time of 54.93 to earn his first individual gold medal.
- Matthew Mays (St. Croix, Virgin Islands) followed by breaking his own school record in the 100 back by nearly a second to earn a silver medal.
- The trio then joined with Matt Zichelli (Glen Ridge, N.J.) to obliterate the MAAC 400 medley relay record. Bryant's quartet finished in 3:13.39, nearly three seconds faster than it did a year ago.
Other Highlights
- Bryant placed three in the 'B' final of the 100 fly. Zach DiGiaro (Middletown, N.J.) finished 11th, Ben Steen (Portsmouth, R.I.) finished 13th and Eric Bebel (Westfield, N.J.) finished 14th.
- Matthew Mastroianni (Glastonbury, Conn.) was Bryant's lone finalist in the 200 free, finishing 15th.
- Andrew Allen (Bedford, N.H.) also finaled in the 100 breast, finishing 16th.
- Steen and Colby Dixon (Summit, N.J.) also finaled in the 100 back.
- Trevor Hazlewood (Corpus Christi, Texas) was Bryant's top finisher in the 3-meter dive, finishing fifth with a score of 245.95.
- Zach Vogel (South Easton, Mass.) also made the 'A' final, finishing eighth.
Notes and Notables
- Ornelas' time in the 100 fly was also two seconds faster than his previous school-record time. No one else in Bryant history has ever swam the event in under 48 seconds.
- Ornelas has four gold medals and five total medals so far.
- Boyle now has seven individual medals in his career. It is his first-career individual gold.
- The Bulldogs have now won eight medals in the first two days.
