SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Nick Lorenz and Diego Serra Sparrow both won first round matchups at this weekend's ITA Regionals at the University of Pennsylvania. 

The two, however, were defeated in the second round on Saturday.

"I thought Nick and Diego played their opponents strong. I hope we can learn from this weekend and close out the fall strong at home."

Weekend Recap

• Lorenz opened the weekend with a three-set victory over Diego Huttepain from Army. After falling 2-6 in the first set, Lorenz rallied for a 6-3 second-set victory. He secured the match with a 7-6 win in the third set.
• Lorenz then squared off with Alafia Ayeni from Cornell, falling 6-1, 6-1 in the second round.
• Serra Sparrow opened his weekend with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over SFU's Sebastian Pinos. He was defeated by Harvard's Steven Sun, 6-2, 6-4, in the second round.
• The doubles team of Lorenz and Grant Pertile dropped a first round match against St. John's, falling 8-6.
