SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University women's swimming & diving team combined with the men's team for 8051.5 points to win the Bulldogs' fifth straight Gompei Invitational. The Black and Gold beat the second place WPI by 2500 points.
The women's team put together a 15 win performance over the course of the three day event hosted by WPI. The Bulldogs took four out of five in the relay events to help put them on their way to the overall victory.
Notes and Notables
Day 1
- Bryant started the weekend strong with a win from Team A in the 200 yard medley relay. The team of Reagan Lord, Elayna Pistrin, Clara Steen, and Marcella Figueroa swam a 1:45.16 to grab the victory. The B team also came in fourth with a time of 1:47.53 and the C team placed sixth with a 1:48.53 in the race.
- The women took four of the top five spots in 200 yard IM. Lord won the event with her time of 2:06.17. Pistrin followed her up with a 2:09.20 to grab second place. Steen placed fourth at 2:10.99 and Summer Sakowicz rounded out the group by coming in fifth with a 2:11.46.
- Figueroa snagged her third straight win in the 50 yard freestyle by swimming a season best 23.93. Jill Carline placed ninth in the event by racing a 24.97.
- Makayla Pearce continued her dominance in the freestyle events by winning the 500 yard race. She swam a 5:00.18 to grab the victory. Natalia Kuipers was right behind Pearce at 5:02.30 to take second place. Sarah Falder took fifth with her time of 5:09.71, Charlee LeGallais placed eighth with a 5:10.59, and Paige Edwards was close behind at 5:10.62 to grab ninth.
- Pistrin took her first individual win of the weekend in the 200 yard breaststroke by racing a 2:20.87. Ella Witteveen also took tenth in the event with her time of 2:34.47.
- Julia Stenhard won the 100 yard butterfly after laying down a 56.26. Ava Mustacciuolo came in second for the team's third 1-2 finish of the weekend with her time of 57.01. Mustacciuolo beat her preliminary time by nearly seven seconds to earn second. Steen also finished seventh in the event with a 58.21.
- In the 800 yard freestyle relay, Team A (Lord, Pearce, LeGallais, Carline) won with a 7:47.35 and beat their preliminary time by over three seconds. Team B took fifth and Team C grabbed ninth with their times of 7:56.98 and 8:02.57, respectively.
Day 2
- The A Team (Figueroa, Carline, LeGallais, Pistrin) continued the team's supremacy in the relay events with a victory in the 200 yard freestyle. They raced a 1:36.23 in the event. The B Team was sixth with a time of 1:39.45.
- Kuipers was third in 400 yard IM with her time of 4:37.32. Pistrin was right behind her in fourth with a 4:38.04. Steen took sixth in the event with a 4:38.47.
- The Black and Gold went 1-2-3 for the first time this season in the 100 yard backstroke. Lord won her second event of the weekend by putting down a 54.45. Stenhard followed up Lord with a 56.07 to take second. Jacqui Fox rounded out the podium spots with her time of 57.04 for third place. Jill Stevens also took sixth by swimming a 58.94.
- Figueroa won her second event by racing a 25.25 in the 50 yard butterfly.
- The Bulldogs took five of the top ten spots in the 200 yard freestyle. Elise Richardson placed third with a 1:54.63, Pearce took fourth at 1:55.01, Carline grabbed fifth with a 1:55.86, LeGallais came in seventh at 1:56.34, and Falder finished eighth with a 1:56.62.
- Fox finished fourth in the 50 yard backstroke with her time of 27.60. Stevens swam a 27.93 to take fifth in the event.
- Pistrin put down a 1:06.66 to take third in the 100 yard breaststroke. Lord grabbed fourth in the event with a 1:06.83 while Witteveen took tenth with her time of 1:09.89.
Day 3
- In the 400 yard medley, Team A (Lord, Pistrin, Stenhard, Figueroa) swam a 3:55.88 to grab second place. The B team followed up with a fourth place finish at 3:59.42 while the C team placed seventh at 4:02.59.
- Bryant had four swimmers in the top 10 in the 100 yard freestyle. Figueroa won the event at 51.98, Carline came in third with a 52.65, Richardson placed fourth at 52.87, and LeGallais sixth with her time of 53.15.
- Lord swam a 2:00.50 to take the 200 yard backstroke. Stenhard backed up Lord with a 2:04.21 to take second. Then Richardson and Stevens tied for sixth with both swimmers racing a 2:07.57. Fox rounded out the team's top 10 with an eighth place finish after swimming a 2:07.93.
- In the 100 yard IM, Witteveen took third with a 1:01.86 and Hannah King placed ninth at 1:03.45
- Stenhard won the 200 yard butterfly with a 2:04.85. Steen took third with a 2:08.18, Mustacciuolo snagged fourth at 2:09.07, and Kuipers took tenth at 2:13.72.
- Pearce won her second straight 1650 yard freestyle event with her time of 17:17.18. Kuipers took third in the race by setting a 17:20.61. Edwards grabbed sixth with her time of 17:48.48. Falder took eighth with a 18:00.75. Anna Jackson snagged tenth with a time of 18:12.86.
- To end the week the 400 yard free relay A team (Carline, LeGallais, Richardson, Figueroa) won the event by racing a 3:32.95. The B Team came in third by swimming a 3:35.34.

The next time the Bulldogs compete as a full team will be in the new year when they travel to UMass on January 6th.
