Bulldogs fall to UML on Sunday

LOWELL, Mass. – The Bryant University baseball team fell to UMass Lowell, 16-3, on Sunday afternoon at LeLacheur Park.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 13-14 overall and 4-5 in America East play. Bryant was swept in a weekend series for just the second time this year.

Brian SchaubJake Gustin and Greg Gorman homered for the Bulldogs. Derek Smith posted his eighth-straight multi-hit game.

How it Happened

  • UML scored first on Sunday, plating a run in the first. A leadoff double opened the inning and a ground ball scored the runner to make it 1-0.
  • Schaub tied the game with a long solo home run to left center in the third.
  • The River Hawks answered with the next six runs. In the bottom of the third. Gerry Siracusa doubled off the left field to score two. He then scored on a ground out.
  • In the fourth, the River Hawks scored one on a double that caromed off of John Hosmer at third and a pair of sac flies.
  • UML extended its lead with three more runs in the fifth. Two singles delivered runs and the final run of the inning scored on a fielder's choice.
  • Gustin hit his third home run of the season in the sixth to make it 10-2.  
  • The River Hawks added five more in the sixth.
  • Gorman hit his first-career home run in in the ninth.
