Bryant downs Queens, 5-2, on Tuesday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The trio of Natalie Griffin, Linde van Leeuwen and Eva Boogers combined for 12 points as the Bryant field hockey team defeated Queens (N.C.) University, 5-2, on Tuesday morning at Cowen Field.

With the win, the Bulldogs snap a six-game losing streak and improve to 4-9 on the year. Tuesday also marked Bryant's highest scoring output since the 2022 season.

Griffin and Boogers each finished with a goal and two assists, while van Leeuwen recorded the first two goals of her collegiate career. Jaedyn Scarlatos recorded her first collegiate goal as well in the match.

Key Moments
  • van Leeuwen and Scarlatos scored 44 seconds apart in the third quarter to break a 1-1 tie.
First Quarter
  • Bryant scored in the 8th minute to take the early lead. The Bulldogs' initial attempt on a penalty corner was stopped but Boogers picked up the loose ball on the end line and was able to find an opening to make it 1-0.
  • Queens tied the game in 12th minute as Delfina Gonzalez slotted home a loose ball in front of the goal.
Second Quarter
  • No scoring.
Third Quarter
  • Bryant went on the offensive to start the third quarter and was awarded a penalty corner six minutes in. Griffin stopped the insert and van Leeuwen ripped a shot that deflected off the goalie and into the back of the cage for her first collegiate goal.
  • Less than a minute later, the official ruled that the Queens goalie and covered the ball in the circle and awarded Bryant a stroke. Scarlatos calmly rifled a shot into the lower left corner for her first collegiate goal and a 3-1 Bryant lead.
  • Bryant added a third goal in the quarter as Griffin was able to tap one home on a penalty corner.
Fourth Quarter
  • van Leeuwen notched her second of the afternoon in similar fashion, rifling home a shot off a penalty corner.
  • Gonzalez scored her second of the game to close out the scoring in the 56th minute.

  • Bryant snapped a six-game losing streak and is now 4-9 on the year.
  • The Bulldogs improve to 2-0 all-time vs Queens.
  • The five goals on Tuesday are the most for the Bulldogs since they scored five vs Stonehill in September of 2022.
  • Griffin notched her first goal of the season, while her four points (1g, 2a) were a career high.
  • Boogers also registered a career-high four points (1g, 2a) and now leads the team with 12 points (4g, 4a).
  • van Leeuwen recorded the first two goals of her collegiate career.
  • Scarlatos' goal on the stroke was her first collegiate goal.
