Bulldogs Win Second Straight Ocean State Cup in Victory over Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bryant University Men's Lacrosse won their second straight Ocean State Cup on Tuesday night following a 10-7 victory at Brown. The Bulldogs finished 2-0 on the year against in-state rivals Providence and Brown to win the cup.

  • After trailing 3-1, the Bulldogs would go on a 6-0 run to turn the tide in their favor.

How it Happened

  • Spencer Hughes got the scoring started for Brown early into the game after scoring an unassisted goal under two minutes into the game.

  • The Bears would strike again and go up 2-0 after Aidan McLane would score a goal of his own. With time expiring in the first, Jack Lonsinger would get the Bulldogs on the board on a feed by Timmy Hackett.

  • Just 13 seconds into the second, Brown's defensemen Mark Witt would extend Brown lead to 3-1 on after picking up the ground ball off the faceoff and burying it at close range.

  • Bryant would return the favor as long pole defender Drew Lucas would be assisted by Will Ronan to record his first goal of the season.

  • Timmy Hackett would pick up his second assist of the game after finding Aidan Goltz to tie things up at 3.

  • Luke Mead would join Lucas as the second Bulldog defender to score in the game picking up his first career goal and giving the Bulldogs their first lead of the night.

  • Timmy Hackett would find the back of the net on an underhanded bounce pass.

  • Johnny Hackett then got on the board after racing down the right side and crossing up Brown's goaltender.

  • The third quarter would begin with Jack Lonsinger bury his second score of the game after Drew Lucas faked a shot on goal.

  • The Bears would chip away at Bryant's lead with two goals in the third (Marcus Wertheim and Aidan McLane). The Bulldogs would lead 7-5 after three.

  • Jack Lonsinger would complete the hat trick after putting back a deflected shot by Johnny Hackett.

  • Johnny Hackett would put the game away for Bryant with an empty net goal at the two minute mark and put Bryant up 10-5.

  • Wertheim and McLane would both score late goals for the Bears but Bryant's lead would prove to be too much.

  • The Bulldogs outshot Brown 42-37 on Tuesday.

  • Brown had the slight edge in the ground ball margin; picking up 35 to just beat out Bryant's 31.
