Filou Verhoeven and
Callie Caito each scored their first career goals as the Bryant field hockey team opened the 2024 season with a thrilling 2-1 win over Fairfield on Friday afternoon at Cowen Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs open the season with a victory for the second-straight year. Bryant has now won each of its last four games, all at home, dating back to last season.
Verhoeven scored on a penalty corner late in the first half and Caito converted a semi-breakaway to make it 2-0 before the Black and Gold were able to defend a late push from the Stags.

- Caito scored the game-winning goal with 2:22 left in the third quarter to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

- Sara DeSousa made four huge saves to keep Fairfield off the board in the second quarter.
- Bryant earned a late penalty corner and Verhoeven was able to convert. She received the insertion from Eva Boogers and fired a shot that was able to find the back of the net.
Third Quarter
- Caito raced off the bench and ran onto a long ball from the Bryant defense. Her first attempt was denied but Caito corralled the rebound and fired a reverse into the back of the cage.
- Fairfield quickly answered, scoring on a deflection less than a minute later.
Fourth Quarter
- Bryant held off a furious Fairfield push to complete the win.
- The Stags earned five penalty corners in the final four minutes but Bryant denied all of them.

- Bryant opened its season with a victory for the second-straight year.

- Bryant's four-straight wins are its longest winning streak since the program won seven straight in 2013.
