THE SERIES
- Bryant and Siena will be meeting for the third-straight year and the fifth time overall.
- The Saints are 3-1 against the Bulldogs, including a 90-88 overtime victory last season in Smithfield.
- Bryant led by six with under two minutes left but the Saints tied the game with a pair of threes and won the game with two free throws late in overtime.
2024-25 RECAP
- Bryant finished 23-12 in 2024-25, winning America East Regular Season and Postseason Championships on its way to a second NCAA Tournament appearance in four seasons.
- The Bulldogs have now won 20+ games in each of the last two seasons and three times in four years.
- Bryant averaged 6.0+ blocks per game for the second-straight year.
- Earl Timberlake was named the America East Player of the Year, becoming the first player of the year in DI program history.
WHO'S BACK
- Bryant welcomes back six players from 2024-25: Aaron Davis III, Jakai Robinson, Langston Bailey, Jason Sepe, Frankie Vassalluzzo and Khalil Williams.
- Davis and Robinson saw the most action, appearing in 13 and 33 games, respectively. Davis averaged 4.9 ppg before missing the final 11 games with injury.
- Robinson proved to be a great asset off the bench for the Black and Gold, averaging 20.5 mpg and posting 5.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 0.8 apg. He turned the ball over just 25 times on the year.
WHO'S NEW
- Jamion Christian begins his first season as head coach of the Bulldogs. He owns a 147-161 record in 10 seasons as a collegiate head coach. He spent six years at Mount St. Mary's, one year at Siena and three seasons at George Washington.
- Bryant's incoming class includes 13 new players - nine true freshmen and four transfers.
- The transfer class is headlined by former four-star recruit Quincy Allen and also includes Keegan Harvey, Lennart Weber and Jaheim Nyam.
- Bryant's freshmen class, the largest in DI program history, includes Ashley Sims II, Joe Green, Gio Sanford, Daniel Akoue, Ethane Bourgade, Reed Woerner, Michael DeOrsey and Timofei Rudovskii.
- Allen appeared in 17 games for Chicago State last season, averaging 9.6 ppg and 5.6 rpg. He started his career at Colorado and was a part of James Madison's 2023 NCAA Tournament team.
- Harvey comes to Smithfield after one year at Charleston and three seasons at George Washington, while Weber is a grad transfer from the Univ. of Toronto.
- Weber appeared in 74 games, averaging 9.3 ppg and 5.6 rpg at the Univ. of Toronto. He averaged 13.1 ppg and a league-leading 8.9 rpg last season.
- Sims, Green and Sanford all come to Smithfield from the Baltimore/Maryland area, while Woerner (Connecticut) and DeOrsey (Rhode Island) are New Englanders.
- Akoue, Bourgade and Rudovskii all comes from overseas and will provide Bryant with experience and height. Akoue is 6-11 out Libreville, Gabon, Bourgade is 6-9 and comes from Paris, France and Rudovskii is 6-9 wing from Moscow, Russia.
FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW
- Bryant was the first team in the America East since Siena in the mid-80's to average 6.0+ blocks per game in back-to-back seasons. The Bulldogs have ranked in the top five nationally each of the last two years.
- In total, Bryant returns just 266 total points from last year's team that averaged 81.77 ppg.
- Allen is the lone Bulldog on the Preseason All-America East Team.
- The Bulldogs will be playing the Saints in Albany for just the second time in program history. They are 1-0 after earning a 67-51 victory in 2023.
- Monday's game is a homecoming for Jamion Christian and associate head coach Harley Fuller. Christian was the head coach of Siena in 2018-19, while Fuller spent three seasons as an assistant with the Saints (2018-21). Fuller is also a native to the Albany area, graduating from Broadalbin-Perth High School.
