ORLANDO – The Bryant baseball team scored single runs in five separate innings and then closed the door late to earn a 5-3 victory over UCF on Sunday afternoon at John Euliano Park.
With the win, the Bulldogs improve to 2-3 on the year and earn their first-ever win over a Big 12 program. Bryant has now defeated a Power 5 program in each of the last three years.
Five Bryant pitchers combined to quiet the Knights on Sunday.
Clay Robbins didn't allow a hit in 3.1 scoreless innings in his first start as a Bulldog.
Brooks Ey,
Jared Burrows,
Toby Scheidt and
Liam Chamberlain combined to finish it out.
Bryant scored its first four runs with a sac fly, ground out, safety squeeze and ground out. The Bulldogs scored a key insurance run in the 8
th on a
Brandyn Durand double. Durand reached twice with a walk, while
Charlie Saul (2-3, RBI, R) and
Shea Grady (2-4, RBI, R) each finished with multiple hits.

Key Moments
- Bryant turned double plays in the first and third to help Robbins escape some early trouble.
- Durand provided a decisive blow with an RBI double in the 8th to make it 5-2.
How it Happened
- The Bulldogs struck first, scoring in the second. Durand walked and Gavin Greger singled to start the inning. A sac but advanced the runners and Saul brought in Durand with a sac fly.
- Grady then led off the third with a double, moved to third on a sac bunt and scored on a ground out by Gavin Noriega.
- In the fifth, Saul singled to left and moved to second on a sac bunt. A single moved him to third and Zyons plated him with a safety squeeze.
- The Knights plated two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2. A single through the left side plated the first run and a balk scored the second. Burrows, however, was able to regroup and induce a pop out to strand two.
- Bryant then plated single runs in the seventh and the eighth. A strikeout wild pitch put the leadoff runner on and a single from Saul followed. After a sac bunt, Grady drove in a run with an RBI ground out.
- In the eighth, Noriega singled and then raced around to score on a Durand double.
- UCF made one final push in the bottom of the eighth as three-straight two-out singles plated a run. Scheidt settled to induce a ground out to end the inning.
- Chamblerlain then struck out two in a perfect ninth to close the door.
