Wachter pitches gem as Bulldogs split on Saturday at Bearkat Classic

HUNTSVILLE, TX. – The Bryant University softball team won its first game of the season in the 4-2 victory against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
Maddy Wachter pitched a complete game, striking out five in the victory. Laniya Lewis hit a solo homerun.
The Bulldogs fell in the second game to Tulsa 8-7. Alexis Larrow, Makenna Coleman, and Meaghan Houk all homered.

Key Moment (GM1)
  • Bryant trailed by five heading into the seventh inning and scored four runs but fell short 8-7.
How it Happened (GM1)
  • In the top of the first, the Hurricanes hit a two-run home run (2-0).
  • Coleman hit a leadoff single, and then Houk hit a triple down the right field line, bringing home Coleman in the bottom of the first (2-1).
  • Tulsa would take a three-run lead, scoring a run in the top of the second and third innings (4-1).
  • During the bottom of the third inning, Houk reached base on a fielder's choice, setting up Rohwer, who hit an RBI double (4-2).
  • The Hurricanes would hit a three-run home run in the fifth and a solo home run in the sixth to gain a six-run advantage (8-2).
  • With one out, Bam hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth (8-3).
  • Amira Rainer hit a one-out single and was brought home on a long ball from Coleman (8-5). Lewis then hit a double during the next at-bat, and Houk hit a two-run bomb, cutting the lead to one (8-7) in the bottom of the seventh. The Bulldogs then produced back-to-back outs ending the game.

  • Coleman and Lewis reached base on a walk and error to begin the bottom of the first inning. Houk then singled up the middle, scoring one run (2-1). The Bulldogs tied the game at two on a fielders choice. Bryce Clendenin then hit an RBI-double to left giving Bryant the lead (3-2).
  • Lewis hit a leadoff solo HR in the bottom of the third (4-2).
