Lonsinger headlines trio of hat-tricks in comeback win against UAlbany

SMITHFIELD, R.I.- Jack Lonsinger scored two goals in a span of six seconds to help the Bryant Bulldogs storm back and claim their first conference victory of the year, defeating UAlbany by a final score of 12-11 on Saturday night at Beirne Stadium .
With the win, the Black and Gold improve to 1-0 in America East play and 4-3 overall. Bryant will head on the road to take on Vermont next Saturday, Mar. 22. Faceoff is set for 12:00 p.m.

Lonsinger headlined a trio of Bulldogs that finished with hat-tricks on the night. The redshirt junior finished with his second hat-trick of the season while freshmen Luca Elmaleh and Zac Amend recorded the first hat-tricks of their collegiate careers.

How it Happened
  • UAlbany got the scoring started on Saturday when Daniel Kesselring found Amos Whitcomb on a man-up opportunity with 12:47 in the first quarter.
  • Luca Elmaleh got the Bulldogs on the board after crashing towards the cage and burying a shot with 9:29 to play in the first.
  • The Great Danes benefited once again from a man-up opportunity, when Silas Richmond scored off an assist from Brendan O'Keefe with 7:57 in the first.
  • Jack Lonsinger evened the score once again, cashing in a shot that rebounded off the iron.
  • Ben Wimmer gave the Great Danes the lead at the end of the first quarter scoring with 1:02 remaining in the opening frame.
  • The second quarter featured uncontested runs from both teams. The Bulldogs started the quarter off on a 4-0 thanks to three goals from Zac Amend and a score from Owen West. 
  • UAlbany went on a 3-0 run of their own to end the half and have the score tied 6-6 at the break. Ryan Doherty had two of the Great Danes three goals during that stretch. Jackson Palumb had the other score for UAlbany prior to halftime.
  • Out of the break, UAlbany continued to pressure the Bulldogs. The Great Danes scored another three straight goals, moving to a 6-0 run.
  • Bryant LSM, Gabe Chinitz broke the scoreless stretch after running the length of the field and netting a shot with 7:09 to play in the third.
  • The Great Danes quickly responded, scoring another two quick goals giving them an 11-7 lead with 1:11 to play in the third quarter.
  • Luca Elmaleh scored his second goal of the game with 45 seconds to play in the quarter, cutting the deficit to three. 
  • Elmaleh completed his first career hat-trick after scoring off a pass from Amend with 13:35 to play in the fourth quarter.
  • Brian Russell made a mad dash towards the cage and snuck a shot past UAlbany's Brady Smith with 9:53 to play in the game.
  • John Tomsheck found Jack Lonsinger down by the crease with 6:10 remaining to tie the game at 11-11.
  • On the ensuing faceoff, JJ Murphy sprinted toward the cage and found Lonsinger in transition, setting up his second goal in six seconds to give Bryant a 12-11 lead.
  • The Bulldogs would hold UAlbany scoreless for the final six minutes, and win their first conference game of the year.
